BP Spills Coffee

I know almost everybody saw this already, but I thought it was cute so I decided to post it.

I also thought the following new logo was cute for BP. Stolen from Despair.com.

Miwi enjoyed the show!

Not funny. We should feel sorry for the company that provided us with a valuable product and many people with jobs. Yes, they made a mistake, but so does anyone, and believe me, they didn’t do it on purpose.

A Suede Ḥossid -

I don't follow. Even if everything you said is true, does that make it not funny? How does the humor fall away just because we should feel bad for them. There are many things in life that we should feel bad about that are funny.

I merely thought that a) litzoinus about people losing their livelihood (both the owners of the company that provide us all with valuable service; the workers; the people who were affected by the disaster) and the markets losing important product is slightly not appropriate, b) the owners of the company are not as stupid as portrayed in the clip, c) it is unfair how general liberal culture portrays rich people and owners of large companies as blood-sucking monsters.

In terms of c - I don't think it's unfair, the "rich people and owners of large companies" think that if you aren't one of the "rich people and owners of large companies", then you are stupid. What goes around comes around.

They unanimously think that? Did you poll them/hang out with many of them? Stereotypes are ridiculous.

And average people are stupid (speaking of stereotypes). I mean, average IQ is 100. :)

no - does ALL "general liberal culture" portray ALL "rich people and owners of large companies as blood-sucking monsters"?

Stereotypes aren't ridiculous at all. It's the way every normal functioning brain works.

According to Wikipedia, Stereotypes are standardized and simplified conceptions of groups based on some prior assumptions.

There is nothing wrong with that. It's the actions that you choose to do which can technically be problematic.

If you see a german shepard that looks hungry, he is dangerous because of a stereotype. So you take the proper precautions. It's all based on what you do with that information. If you shoot the dog because of the stereotype, then you are mean, if you take the necessary precautions, then you are smart.

It's the same with humans. Blacks have a higher rate of crime, that's statistical. Therefore people are more nervous when they are around black people in "high crime risk" situations. There is nothing wrong with that. If you arrest someone without reason other then he's black or you do something that is wrong just because he's black then that is wrong. But it's not the stereotyping that's the problems, it;s the actions that follow.

Anyway, you can make as fun as you want of trends among groups. But gloating when people lost (even a part of) their livelihood is not nice, in my opinion. It's not like they were providing inferior product for years (like American auto industry) and then need to ask Washington to donate some of the stolen money (and borrow more) so that they continue providing inferior product. I have no sympathy for that. BP, on the other hand, have been providing us with gas for our cars. And then they made a mistake, which cost them (not just the immediate costs, but also the long-ranging costs).
